So. Late last night (around 10:30) Pepper started getting a very upset tummy. Michael walked her outside countless times (managing to freeze them both!) but was successful in not having any 'accidents' in the house :)
Poor little sick baby...
At around 11-ish (once we were all in bed) she hopped up and started clawing on my side of the bed (she does this when she wants a cuddle). It was both cute and heartbreaking that she knew she needed a cuddle because she was feeling so poorly :(
Michael was fantastic with her :) He gave her plenty of cuddles, cleaned up each of the FOUR times she threw up, and sat up with her until she finally fell asleep a bit after 2am. (and took her outside SO many times)
This morning I got up early with her (so Michael could catch some much needed Z's) and basically repeated the process.
Poor little sick baby...
Sarah even came for a surprise visit (surprise to us AND Rach!) and although Pepper was pleased to see Sarah, she was quite listless :(
Michael and I had to be in Buderim for an appointment this morning (which was postponed due to an emergency anyway - we all could have stayed in bed!) so we left Pepper in the care of Rach/Grandma who would bring her to us later in the day.
When we got her back a just a few short hours later, it was clear that she'd need a quick stop off at the Vet's (Dr Phil) for maybe some electrolytes(?) as she really wasnt well, and had had more tummy upsets in the time between when we left her and when we collected her again.
Poor sick little baby...
Dr Phil's vet nurse calmly informed us that our baby might, in fact, have contracted Parvo! (*shriek!* battle stations!) However, after waiting for 15 minutes (after they'd done the test) we were very relieved to discover that she DID NOT have Parvo! *hurray!* ...but...Dr Phil said she had to stay for a sleep-over to get some injections/be put on an I.V. drip to make her feel better, and to stop the vomiting/tummy upset. :( *tear*
The vet nurse was quite amused when Michael wanted to bring in her puppy pack for her overnight stay (which includes all the things a little puppy needs, like: several toys, puppy milk, puppy kibble, bottled water, two collars, her lead, treats, blankets, her bed and more toys) and Dr Phil calmly informed Michael that they live a very 'spartan' or 'monk-like' experience when they stay with him! :) He said it with a smile though, and let Michael pick one toy for Pepper to have with her...he chose the famous 'Squirrel' :D ...and then demonstrated to the vet AND the vet nurse the amazing special features of Squirrel! LOL! Im trying to not poke too much fun at him, it was really rather sweet :)
So we are now on camp (Guide camp) minus one cute puppy :(
We had had her puppy pack all ready to go too, with additional blankets because it will be quite cold here tonight/tomorrow night. Rach has been good though, in offering to return to town (on a day she doesnt need to go in) just to collect the pup for us :)
...and we thought she was the Golden Dog before this!!!
We cant wait to make a phone call first thing in the morning to find out how our poor sick little baby is getting on...
So glad Pepper is better now Bec! :)

Oh no! That's so sad - is she all better??
ReplyDeleteYes, she is much better now, aside from a large haemotoma on the side of her neck thanks to too many needles! It will go down with time, and it is worth it to see her back to her 'sunny' self again :D
